Copy & Paste from Windows Applications

Return to Tips N Tricks Archive Index

Here is the correct way to use Copy & Paste from Windows applications to Elixir’s FormBuilder.
  1. Open a document in Word or other Windows based application
  2. Select a group of text by clicking and dragging your mouse over the text, any point size and weight can be copied
  3. Select Control + C or Edit Copy
  4. Open your Elixir form
  5. Select the Font tool and click inside of your form. (you must have at least one font loaded in the FormBuilder before performing this task, any font will do)
  6. Select Control + V or Edit Paste

Your text should look as it did in your other application including color; you will also have a new list of fonts in your font list, if you copied text using different TrueType fonts than you have loaded in Elixir. Elixir will choose the TrueType fonts it needs. This should do the trick.

Don't forget if Elixir selects TrueType fonts’ that are not on your system or printer, you will have to create them by converting TrueType fonts’ to Elixir and/or printer. See Elixir’s PDF documentation about using TrueType font’s in Elixir, or check out the summer 1997 ShopTalk Volume 5 Number 2.

Note: Images, lines, and boxes will not copy, this option only supports the copying of text. If you need to copy Images, lines, and boxes Elixir’s PrintDriver is the tool to use, if you require full fidelity. Also sometimes invisible document style formatting code will carry over when you use copy & paste. This is hidden code that programs like WordPerfect use to format the look and style of the document, it will become visible in Elixir but it will look like your text got scrambled. If you use bullets or special formatting in your documents these will not copy properly, remove bulleted text formatting and other formatting before using copy & paste.
