Font Overview

Elixir has made every attempt to make using fonts easy. Nothing can replace a good font strategy. And, coupled with the Opus implementation of fonts, the Opus user should find managing fonts an easy task.

The Elixir Desktop and Converters has the capability of converting IBM AFP, Xerox metacode, and HP PCL, fonts into the Elixir internal format. These fonts can then be used with the Opus Designer as bit mapped fonts. By far the best approach is to use the True Type fonts supplies with Windows as they look the very best on the screen. Then at the time when the application is being run in production, an option can be chosen to place the specific printer font format of the selected True Type font at the front of the datastream. All of this conversion activity happens at the time the output printer datastream is created.

The printer format for each different printer is discussed and described in the initial sections of the Application Design chapters of Opus documentation.
